Choosing Indoor House Plants
When choosing your house plants, look for healthy roots and leaves. Examine the leaves for signs of pests and disease.
Many indoor house plants are easy to take care of and take low light conditions. Snake plant (also called Sansevieria or Mother-inlaw's tongue) and yucca elephantipes and coccoloba are some examples.
Cast Iron Plant
Cast iron plant (Aspidistraelatior) has oblong-shaped leaves that can grow up to 2 feet tall. It thrives in shade and dimly lit conditions which makes it a great choice for rooms with no natural light. Its size makes it an attractive accent plant that can make a statement without taking over the room. This easy-care plant thrives in soil that drains well, and in areas that have only a little direct sunlight. It can withstand a wide range of climates, but be careful about overwatering as this can lead to root decay. If the leaves of your plant made of cast iron begin to yellow, it's an indication that it has been exposed to excessive direct sunlight for a long time. Make sure that the lighting is more filtered or relocate the plant to a more shaded area.
A variety of cultivars can provide an array of striking designs and colors. Gold Spike and Goldfeather feature yellow stripes that run through their green leaves. Hoshi-zora cast metal leaves are sprinkled with white and yellow dots, giving it the appearance of airbrushed. Cast iron ferns with snow caps (Aspidistra crussula) with their white color throughout the year are another option.
Indoor cast iron plants require minimal maintenance, but you may need to trim the leaves to keep the shape of the plant, or to remove any dead or dying leaves. You may also have to prune the roots occasionally in the event that the clump grows too big for the pot. Fertilize indoor plants at least once a month using an all-purpose liquid fertilizer in the spring and summer, following the instructions on the product label. Cast iron ferns that grow outdoors require less frequent feeding, but you can apply a general liquid fertilizer during the spring when they begin to grow again.
Snake Plant
Snake plants (Sansevieria), despite their large leaves, are actually elegant and soft. They are among the most adaptable
good house plants plants. They can withstand low levels of light, and even droughts that occur occasionally. They can help keep your home's air healthy by absorbing toxic substances such as formaldehyde, benzene and carbon dioxide.
These plants look fantastic on a desk or
common houseplants table, whether you choose the Mother-in-law's Tongue that is variegated or the tall green Goldband Sansevieria laurentii. They can also be placed around an indoor fireplace or on a window sill so that they can get sun all the day.
In addition to over-watering and freezing temperatures snake plants do not suffer from other issues when kept indoors. Snake plants are slow-growing and do not need to be replanted often. However, if they are growing out of the containers, you can use a potting mix that contains large quantities of perlite, sand, or other aeration ingredients to keep the soil from becoming overly saturated.
If you decide to repot a snake plant take it out of its old container with a sharp knife. Then, repot the rhizome in the same depth as it was when it was first planted. Fill the remainder of the pot up with the potting mix made for succulents and cacti.
It is
best houseplants to keep snake plants away from pets and children as the foliage is toxic in the event of consumption. This is due to the saponins, a natural compound that are strong enough to cause nausea and vomiting in animals and humans when consumed. To be on the safe side, you should always wear gloves when handling the plant. Also, remove any berries that are on the stems so that you don't ingest the berries.

They can also be placed in sunny windows to provide bright light. Be aware that the majority of these plants do best with a high exposure to sunlight and at least 6 hours of bright light per day.
The prickly pear cactus is one of the most well-known plants that can be grown as a houseplant and in landscapes. Other varieties include agave echeveria and mammillaria. Many of these plants multiply by forming clusters of tiny baby cacti that grow around the mother plant, earning them the name "hens and chicks".
Some people use the word "cactus" as a synonym for all succulents. Cactus is the family of plants belonging to the Genus Cactaceae. In fact, cacti are just one of the 60 succulent families that are found throughout the world.
They need to be placed in a container that has drainage holes, just like all succulents and cacti. They don't like soil that is constantly damp. They could rot or develop a misshapen growth in the event of poor conditions. Additionally, cacti and succulents require a minimum of maintenance compared to other plants in the house. They do well indoors and can be moved outdoors during the summer months, but only in a protected location because of the intense sunlight levels that can cause burns to their leaves and stems.
